Hapū Wānanga ki Taranaki has a new whare! Located in our tribal homelands of Puketapu hapū, this space is already becoming a reality thanks to the generosity of our community. A huge mihi to our loyal volunteers who’ve already donated countless hours, skills and resources to help transform the whare into a warm and welcoming space where hapū wāhine, pēpē, tamariki and their whānau can access kaupapa Māori support, education and connection.
We’re inviting individuals, whānau and businesses to help us lay the whāriki that will welcome every whānau who walk through our doors. Your support will contribute towards the set-up costs of our new hub, helping us create a warm, welcoming and functional space for whānau to gather, connect and access support. Every contribution, big or small, will help us put the final pieces in place and bring this dream to fruition.
Our new hub will be a place for:
Perinatal support
Drop-in space for māmā & whānau
Kaimahi workspace
Clinical & non-clinical consultations
Preparation and storage of resources
Respite accommodation
Community connection
Our Goal: Raise $10,000 to assist the set up costs for our hub.
Sponsorship Levels
We’ve come up with a sponsorship system that everyone has an opportunity to contribute to. Whether you’re an individual, whānau, or pākihi (business - small or large), we’re hoping that this collaborative effort will help us meet our goal. Whānau can also opt to sponsor any amount
KŌKŌWAI $50
The Kōkōwai tier symbolises the tūāpapa - the foundation upon which everything else is built. Kōkōwai (red ochre) holds deep significance within te ao Māori, representing our enduring connection to Papatūānuku, whakapapa and identity.
MAMAKU $150
The Mamaku tier symbolises growth, protection and nurturing. The towering mamaku fern shelters its unfurling fronds as they emerge, much like pēpē is protected and nurtured within the womb. The mamaku fern is often one of the first rākau to appear as land, and forests regenerate
RAUKURA $500
The Raukura tier symbolises hope, peace and unity. Deeply significant in Taranaki, the raukura represents the enduring values of manaakitanga, resilience and service to others.
